Shawn Benjaminson, PE, LEED AP BD+C, Principal

Mr. Klaiman, who has over 22 years of experience, leads ADTEK’s structural and specialty engineering (cold-formed and light gauge steel) practices. He oversees ADTEK’s structural engineers on all projects, provides the structural engineering to support many of ADTEK’s current projects, and has the authority to assign structural staff company wide to ensure that sufficient resources are available to meet project schedules. Mr. Klaiman was also instrumental in the expansion of the specialty engineering discipline company-wide, is nationally recognized as an expert in his field and is licensed in over ten states. His specialty group operates throughout the country and actively participates in the professional community. He conducts seminars to educate and promote the development of and most efficient use of light gauge steel framing and design. Mr. Klaiman’s professional experience includes building maintenance and engineering, on-site engineering for a concrete contractor, and Manager of Technical Services for Dale/Incor (a national manufacturer of light gauge steel framing products and systems). He is a member of multiple committees of the American Iron & Steel Institute’s Committee of Specifications for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members and the Committee on Framing Standards for the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute, ASTM and the Steel Framing Alliance. Mr. Klaiman currently serves as President of the Mid-Atlantic Steel Framing Alliance (MASFA) and served as President of the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute in 2009-2010.

Mr. Benjaminson is a licensed professional engineer registered in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. He is a local favorite in Montgomery County, Prince George’s County and Frederick County, and has expertise in pre-planning feasibility studies through new and/or renovated construction, in compliance with all applicable codes and standards that meet program requirements. He is recognized for his expertise in LEED™ certification, MDE regulations, Maryland DNR, WSSC and various other local codes throughout the Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC area. He serves as a Principal overseeing ADTEK’s civil discipline and has over 20 years of experience in all aspects of land development. Mr. Benjaminson has played a key role in generating revenues and growing the civil discipline for the firm. He is responsible for all aspects of land development including engineering design and planning for stormwater management, sediment control, trails/paths, storm drainage, water and sewer, parking, roadways, site layout and grading, utility design and pre-construction services.

Mahendra N. Shah, PE, Founding Partner

M.Shah Mr. Shah is one of ADTEK’s founding partners and served as the firm’s President for 28 years. With over 46 years of engineering and leadership expertise, he has advised owners, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and architects on virtually all aspects of civil and structural engineering, including reviews of RFPs, design-bid-build and design-build efforts, project changes, teaming agreements, and claims avoidance. His counsel is frequently sought by owners and architects as well as agencies at the federal, state and local government levels. Mr. Shah grew and diversified ADTEK from its foundation in structural engineering to include civil and specialty light gauge construction services predominantly serving Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. According to Mr. Shah, “While the firm started out small, we believed that we could provide clients with something different – a team of accomplished professionals who were thoughtful, engaged, and committed to bringing their best effort to every task on behalf of every client.” That mission has not wavered, and remains in place today.

John I. Frankhouser III, PE, Founding Partner and Senior Project Manager

J.Frankhouser Mr. Frankhouser is one of ADTEK’s founding partners and has over 30 years of experience in structural engineering and project management, including structural design and analysis of steel framed structures, timber, cold-formed metal framing, reinforced masonry, reinforced concrete, retaining structures, deep and shallow foundations, and the analysis, assessment, and renovation of existing structures. He is licensed in 15 states, and is well known for his expertise in structural assessment, analysis and ability to convey challenging solutions with simple sketches that are easy for non-technical individuals to understand. He is often in great demand for emergency inspections, renovations, additions, historic preservation and structural engineering to support many design projects for retail, multi-family, mixed-use, K-12 and higher education, park and recreation facilities, and federal buildings. Mr. Frankhouser is responsible for satisfactory completion of the structural portions of the overall building design project, including coordination with work of other disciplines, preparation of alternative design studies, structural analysis and design, preparation of contract drawings and specifications, and emergency structural assessments and reports. Clients count on Mr. Frankhouser’s hands-on approach to quality and successful project delivery with consistently constructible designs.
